Product Description
The oversized grating area and two way blades of this tool will zest citrus, grate Parmesan and shred nuts. Also handy for pureeing garlic. Because the baldes grate in both directions you get results twice as fast! Now while the teeth are tough on food, the handle is easy on your hand.

Amazon.com Review
For finely minced garlic or ginger this is the perfect grater. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. For ease in resting the grater on the counter while in use, there's a hard acrylic frame around the metal. The frame also prevents scratches to your countertop. The large handle allows for a firm grip, and the slightly curved grating surface makes it easy to use with oddly shaped chunks of ginger or garlic cloves. It's also an excellent choice for microshreds of citrus zest. --Jill Lightner

3 out of 5 stars Plastic breaks.   April 21, 2010

These graters worked fine on zesting citrus or grating garlic cloves. But, once I used them (this one and the coarse grater) for hard cheese (Parmesan, Romano, etc.), the plastic cracked on both of them. I would suggest you get one similar to this model, but one that is made of all metal in the grater portion. Also, the handles have to be removed from these graters while washing (dishwasher or hand), because water collects inside and will not dry up unless the handles are removed and then allowed to dry completely. These graters have a couple of design flaws, which need to be addressed by the manufacturer.

4 out of 5 stars Awesome grater, plastic frame, not so much!   December 29, 2009

Love these graters - but don't love replacing them when the plastic frame inevitably breaks. Upgraded to the "professional" series for the metal frame. Once the plastic frame breaks the zester is pretty much done. I did also order the frameless fine rasp to see how that works as well. To be fair the plastic frame lasted through 7 or 8 years of frequent use, including getting tossed into the dishwasher. Treat yourself to fresh zest, grated ginger paste & grated nutmeg without even thinking twice!

2 out of 5 stars Blade great, plastic handle snaps off easily   December 24, 2009

I heard rave reviews about Microplane blades, and I wasn't disappointed in the zester. I purchased three: coarse, fine, and medium, and ALL THREE handles have snapped off, so I am left with 3 virtually useless sharp blades. What a bummer and waste of money, poor design. I would not recommend or buy the plastic handle versions again. Totally disappointing.

1 out of 5 stars Product broke in half during use   October 5, 2009

Beware: The Microplane Fine Grater actually snapped in half during use! While grating ginger, the black handle snapped off the grating blade at the plastic joint. Surprising and disappointing.
